Miss Julie

By August Strindberg

“My souls are conglomerates of past and present stages of culture, bits out of books and newspapers, scraps of humanity, torn shreds of once fine clothing now turned to rags, exactly as the human soul is patched together...from one another and from objects.” - August Strindberg, preface to Miss Julie

On the precipice of adulthood, Julie tries to unearth a sense of agency long buried in a world where who you are is the same as the things that make you up. Hemmed in by highly structured, sensible world of Victorian Sweden, Julie turns to the memory of her hysterical mother to find comfort in a chaotic and shifting sense of self.
